A sound dampener was an attachment in the form of a set of thin, connected plates that was installed on top of a standard Phase I clone helmet. Designed especially for clone gunners, it covered the top and back of the helmet, providing them with additional noise insulation to protect against the recoil and sound of the heavy weapons they operated.
